A Word or Two About The Role of Record Producer

In the music industry, a record producer (or music producer) is (among many other tasks) primarily responsible for completing a 'master' recording so that it is fit for mass production and commercial release. He or she controls the recording sessions, coaches and guides the performers, and supervises the recording, mixing and mastering processes.

A record producer has a keen ear and is often an accomplished musician and arranger. A record producer is well versed in modern digital recording platforms (Pro Tools/Logic) and must be a highly skilled engineer.

As long as music is made by people, a record producer must have, above all, impeccable people skills. The communication of ideas and feelings is what music is all about, and so a music producer must have the ability to both lead and follow, ebb and flow with a wide range of personalities and situations with grace and humility.

Don't get taken by some cat with a discount rig calling himself a record producer.
